Your instrument rating is an add-on to your private pilot certificate that teaches you to fly in less than ideal weather conditions. This is a valuable addition to your flying experience. 

This advanced certificate is where your career can really begin! It allows more experienced pilots to get paid for their piloting skills. 

Teaching is a valuable way to gain flight time and make a difference in the aviation community. Those with their commercial and instrument certifications are eligible to become a CFI/I and share their knowledge.
